Various ways to divide bike lanes from general traffic lanes. This info-graphic has been created on the base of research work carried out by Nathan Wilkes, an engineer from Austin. His detailed work is available as a spreadsheet here.
With the info-graphic there are some details to keep in mind:
- the ratings aren’t exact. there is room for adjustment especially with regards to the aesthetics;
- there will be a variation in mileage depending on the definition of what a street looks like;
- a lot of assumptions in the costings. these can be analysed further in the spreadsheet by looking at the “cost estimates” tab.
