A year long study by the the league of American bicyclists has come up with some interesting statistics on how cyclists are likely to die from traffic incidents. The figure that stands out is deaths resulting from rear end collisions which stands at 40%. This following figure is a breakdown of the fatal collision stats. Please note that these are based on research undertaken in American cities however I feel Australian cities may not be that much different.
There are a bunch other findings in the report which may be of interest to you. Certainly makes for some good reading despite the sad state of affairs regarding the safety of cyclists.
