This is a very promising concept that in my opinion should be planned for in most cities here in Australia. The design concept is simple, to create low traffic and low speed environment on particular streets whereby cyclists and cars can share the space comfortably without incident. These bicycle boulevards are popular in cities like Portland and Berkeley.
This video by Streetfilms looks at bicycle boulevards and how they can benefit popular cycling routes with such design treatment. The film also asks why this approach has not been adopted for New York city. There may be some ideas for discussion to take out of this short video for your particular city?
